    A visa is used during traveling and allows a person to enter a foreign country for a specified purpose.

    There are two types of visas provided by the United States:

    Immigrant Visa- for individuals traveling to the United States to live in the country permanently

    Non-immigrant Visa- for individuals visiting the United States on a temporary basis (for work or study)

    Marriage Based Adjustment of Status- if your spouse is in the United States then you may qualify.

  • The process of naturalization allows a non-citizen to become a U.S. citizen. You must be a permanent resident for a certain number of years before applying.

  • There are different defenses to deportation:

    Cancellation of Removal

    Voluntary Departure

    Asylum

    Withholding of Removal

    Convention Against Torture

    Waiver of Removal

  • If you or a loved one has suffered substantial mental or physical abuse then you may qualify for a U Visa.

  • If you are a US citizen or Legal Permanent Resident (LPR) then you may be able to file an immigration petition for certain relatives (parents, spouses, siblings, adult children, minor children).
